The collection of the workers
The sculptures here exposed – all of them small in size and made of bronze, chalk or waxed chalk – are representations of jobs represented by young strong and brawny men, focused on their activities as manual labourers in the typical ways portrayed by the art of the Fascist era.
Giuseppe Albano creates this collection in 1933, as preparatory sketches to enter the competition for the planning of the statues to be placed on the two main entrances of the Palazzo degli Uffici Finanziari in Bari. In 1934 he only produces in bronze the sculptures of the Grape harvester and of the Docker (sketch not exposed).
The bronze sketches here exposed were made in 1968 by the Comune di Putignano (Municipality of Putignano).
